Phurichai Rungcharoenkitkul

Principal Economist at Bank For International Settlements, Director of Monetary Policy Strategy Office at Bank of Thailand

Phurichai Rungcharoenkitkul is a Principal Economist at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), where he has been since 2014. His works focus on monetary policy and its links with the financial cycle, the natural interest rate, and external stability. They feature in BIS flagship publications and international peer-reviewed journals. Beyond research, Phurichai has extensive experience in policymaking, with a decade-long career at the Bank of Thailand. Most recently he served as Director of Monetary Policy Strategy Office, leading teams of economists in counselling the Monetary Policy Committee on monetary and exchange rate policies. Early on, he spent a couple of years at the International Monetary Fund in DC covering Asia. He obtained his DPhil and MPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford, and a BSc in Economics with Statistics (First Class Honours) from the University of Bristol.
